Greenville, & Upstate sc Vocal Lessons

As a vocal coach, I work with individuals of all ages and experience levels, from beginners to seasoned musicians. I help students navigate a wide variety of goals and challenges, often including:

  • Beginners just learning about music for the first time – including matching pitches and singing basic scales

  • Kids needing help getting ready for auditions

  • Students who want to focus on singing and vocal technique

  • Working with adults of all ages and experience levels

  • Working to improve any problems you may be encountering with your voice

  • Individuals who want to learn basic theory and how to sight-read

  • Experienced musicians who are looking to learn a new instrument

These are just a few of the common needs I help students with. I teach all styles of music, but my particular area of interest is in commercial styles of music, rather than classical.  There is no wrong time to learn to sing. Whether you’re 9 or 90, I would like to help you get the most out of your voice lessons.

Here are a few things I help senior vocal students with:

    • Prioritizing your vocal health and gentle care: You will learn how to avoiding strain and how to use a gentle warm-up that will protect your vocal cords.

    • Focusing on unique and moving emotional expression over perfection: While youthful singing is defined by flexibility and range, senior singers often bring a unique authenticity, conveying a depth of emotion and life experience that is entirely unique to them.

    • Making specific physical adjustments that will help you: Seniors often need to focus on loosening muscles in the neck, jaw, and shoulders to counteract tension, I use gentle stretching to ensure freedom and flexibility in your voice.

    • I will help you overcome your fear and build your confidence: Many seniors start with the belief they are "too old" or "tone-deaf." These are societal myths that are not true. You can learn to sing at any age and in a way that is expressive and unique to you.

    • We will keep track of your progress: I will help you with direct feedback and point out where your are improving and growing in your singing ability.

    • I work with students who are afraid they will have to read music, but can’t

    • Fear you will loose your unique sound and be forced to sing a certain way that you don’t really like, that your personal goals won’t be taken into account

    • Fear of making a bad impression, of doing something embarrassing or being judged

    • You might be worried about singing in front of a vocal coach or in front of other people

    • You might be worried you voice is “too bad” to improve even with lesson

    • That it’s “too late” in life to start learning too sing

    • Or you might worry about forgetting lyrics or having a shaky voice

These are just a few of the common fears felt by most vocal students. Even some of the most talented vocalists feel this way at times. As your coach, I am here to support you and provide a safe space for you to grow. I’ll reassure you that any fear you have is not unique to you, but is something commonly felt by almost everyone who takes vocal lessons.

Our sessions will be

  • Personalized

The best foundation to begin voice lessons is to learn about you.

Why do you want to take lessons? Have you had lessons before? What music do you like? What led you to me? What are you most comfortable singing?

To tailor an experience based on your unique needs and what you’re hoping for, these are just a few of the questions I begin with,

  • integrative

From there, I would like to hear you sing, which will help me get the best idea of where you are at.

My approach is always flexible and my clients comfort is the most important thing when establishing a relationship. We typically will begin with basic vocal warm-ups.

I’ll meet you where you’re at. As I begin to understand your instrument, I will see what your strengths are. This helps me identify what lessons and teaching with be best for you to start with.

  • targeted

Once we get started, I will encourage you to record lessons – or I will record individual exercises and label them in voice memos for you to practice at home, in the car, etc. I will also encourage you to record yourself for biofeedback as you practice at home.

Your lessons will evolve organically as I see how you are progressing and what will help you the most at each step in your journey.

I personalize my instruction to your particular needs and interests
